Glen Park Gospel Church >> History >> Others
Betty Mapperson always remembers with joy the Sunday School picnics held in Zillman's paddock on Cup Day. She says, "What a treat it was to have raspberry vinegar and the delicious home made ice-cream Mr Dansey made for us. Our prize for winning a race was a chocolate or a bag of sweets.
Neil Bowman now of Bayswater states, "I feel the time that I spent at the Mission was a good time of training for me. The consistency and spiritual strengths of the Fellowship there have always stayed with me." Neil recalls, "We were a happy lot at the Grovers' home. Of a Sunday we would have perhaps a cold leg of lamb and hot vegetables. One Sunday I recall I was busy mashing the potatoes when one bright spark came along with a bottle of tomato sauce and we all dined on pink potatoes that Sunday."
Many others have contributed to the continuance of the work over the years, in particular Mrs Hitchcock, who with her family of girls, were an inspiration to the many newcomers in the district, encouraging them to join in the fellowship of the Mission. Throughout the years this little local church had exerted a good influence on many young lives. Its members have found forgiveness and peace with God and with other people through it's ministry, and then have moved on to share that blessing with others in various parts of Australia and overseas.
The original building is regularly maintained and is currently used for worship services at 10.30 am each Sunday. It is located in Lower Road, Eltham North. (Melway Reference 21:K1), to the rear of North Eltham Primary School. And you are most welcome to join with us.
