Glen Park Gospel Church >> Bible Studies >> Favourite Readings #6
The sixth year of favourite Bible readings. The Read Through the Bible in Three Years plan is still running on this web site and can be followed on the above 3 Year Bible link. This year however, we continue with a year of the most favourite Bible passages grouped together under one or more themes each month. You will notice that the reading may be short, sometimes only a few verses, seldom more than twenty. Also you will probably read some passages more than once, but in a different context.
If you are settled into a regular pattern with your devotional time, please continue to enjoy it, but if you are not in the habit of regular Bible reading; here is your opportunity. Make a habit of selecting something from each reading to encourage and fuel your prayer time. A point of praise; encouragement to pray; a lesson to learn or an example to follow. Use the Bible passage to keep your prayer time active and interesting. Look for God to speak to you through His word and wait on Him. He is not in a hurry. Then share this blessing with someone else.
Each month we will update the tables below to include the current month's readings, until eventually another full year is portrayed. It will then always be available from our Archive of Study sections.
It is estimated that over one third of the Bible is prophetic in nature, much of it to do with the person, purposes and program of the Lord Jesus Christ. Prophesy is simply the eternal God in time stating fact. This January in our daily readings, we see how jealously Almighty God assigns His word to His spokesmen.

Prophecies of the Eternity of Jesus.
That this one who was born man is the eternal word, pre-existent and everlasting is amazing to behold. We would not know except that it has been prophetically declared. Search these Scriptures with wonder and awe.

Prophecies, or God's advance declaration of the advent of Jesus are here coupled with passages suggesting their fulfilment. God always says what He is intending to do before taking action, and then, 'I watch over my word to perform it.' Jeremiah 1:12. More evidence that God is God.

The readings follow the prophecies surrounding the death of Jesus. First the prophecy then the fulfilment.
"I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, and wonder how He could love me... ".

Isaiah in his prophecies painted a reasonably full picture of the nature and work of Jesus the Messiah. Our order includes: His titles, His mission and attributes. As you meditate on a verse given, read the context, identify and expand the theme. Keep your own running record to review the full picture. All references are for ISAIAH. These are not all. There is much more, everywhere may you care to look.

Prophecies of events preceding the return of Jesus were given 2,000 or many more years ago. In this selection many (with *) have already been fulfilled or have a dual application. Many (with+) are continuous. Some may not be fulfilled until the last second before Jesus appears. There is duplication, rewording and interweaving of prophecies. We urge you to read each reference individually and meditate on that actually being conveyed. Be not hasty. Let the Holy Spirit be your teacher.

Days of heaven on earth. Ending a terrible battle with the evil one and his minions, the Lord will return to redeem His own from persecution and the grave. He will establish a thousand year universal reign of peace in equity, in which His enemies will be required to submit. Finally there will be one decisive, abortive rebellion by evil before all are brought to judgement. This months readings foretell or allude to this fast approaching time.

"But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
Exodus 9:16 (NASB)
The Old Testament quoted in the New Testament is a demonstration of the long history of ancient writings that focussed on one man, Jesus of Nazareth. It is impossible that anyone could either cause these ancient words to be written beforehand, or gather them all up into one lifetime in events so often out of his control unless he were, as He claims, the anointed of God.

Many of the institutions given by God to Israel portray and foretell the person, nature and work of Jesus Christ. In each selection you will find a word picture, an ancient echo or a glow of some aspect of the life, times, attributes or accomplishments of the Saviour.

He is Able. Our God ‘is able.’ The word ‘able’ tells of power; the strength when called on to achieve, to get things done (Strongs word, G1410). This months readings examine this word as the Bible uses it to tell about God’s ability. The word has been translated in different ways, so you may not always easily identify it, but the idea is there.

The angel's words "bring you good news" (Christmas day reading) is an English translation of just one word. It is found in our Bibles in different expressions which also include, 'have the gospel preached to them', 'bring good news', and the like. As this short list indicates the meaning is not the good news, but the delivery of the good news to them that are needy. As you read through, try to discover from the context, secrets that will help us to be more effective in this task God has committed into our care.
