Glen Park Gospel Church >> Bible Studies >> Favourite Readings #12
The eigth year of favourite Bible readings. The Read Through the Bible in Three Years plan is still running on this web site and can be followed on the above 3 Year Bible link. This year however, we continue with a year of the most favourite Bible passages grouped together under one or more themes each month. You will notice that the reading may be short, sometimes only a few verses, seldom more than twenty. Also you will probably read some passages more than once, but in a different context.
If you are settled into a regular pattern with your devotional time, please continue to enjoy it, but if you are not in the habit of regular Bible reading; here is your opportunity. Make a habit of selecting something from each reading to encourage and fuel your prayer time. A point of praise; encouragement to pray; a lesson to learn or an example to follow. Use the Bible passage to keep your prayer time active and interesting. Look for God to speak to you through His word and wait on Him. He is not in a hurry. Then share this blessing with someone else.
Each month we will update the tables below to include the current month's readings, until eventually another full year is portrayed. It will then always be available from our Archive of Study sections.
It is estimated that over one third of the Bible is prophetic in nature, much of it to do with the person, purposes and program of the Lord Jesus Christ. Prophesy is simply the eternal God in time stating fact. This January in our daily readings, we see how jealously Almighty God assigns His word to His spokesmen.

Matthew alone of the four evangelists uses the phrase "the kingdom of Heaven" The other writers speak of "the kingdom of God", and Matthew also uses that title in four instances. Try to find our why he does this as you read during the month. Keeping notes of your own thoughts day by day will be an advantage. More information on our web-site.

The Bible likens God's children to many things. Each object is like the believer in one or more significant ways. Take time to look up the verse in context and keep a summary note of each to review at the end of the month.

This months readings are inspired by C H Spurgeons 'Morning and Evening Daily Readings.' The number in brackets is your key verse. Can you build a meditation from a thought in that verse? If so, keep it in mind ready to share with someone you meet during the day. Sample: This month's Green Leaf devotional is based on the reading for the 11th. Easter selections are also included.

We call it a virus. It is very contagious. It can kill people in great numbers. Sometimes it may spread to animals or birds, or from them to us. It can mutate into another form and start again. The Bible words are diseases, pestilence and plague. These diseases become severe when a people turn away from God forgetting His laws thereby establishing their own standards. God does not put these conditions upon a people who live in His way by His word Deuteronomy 28:25-61. We should know what The Bible says. Following is a representative selection.

Knowing Our God. Each day shows us a new aspect of God Himself. How does the nature of our God direct His attitude and stemming from this His actions toward Israel and also toward us. Keep a readings diary of the things about Him you learn each day, then review it regularly. Build up a profile of the heart of the Lord. Thereby your confidence in Him and trust of Him. The readings lead you in your hope.

Matthew in his Gospel sorts his material into groups of two, three, five and seven. It is an aid to memorising scripture and enhances points of interest. August readings take up some of these groups. All readings are in Matthew's Gospel concerning topics of interest. You must put it into its context by reading around the key verse/s. (Source: A Guide to the Gospels - W Graham Scroggie.)

These readings are small, mostly just two verses. Look for words and ideas in common. Use each one to fuel your meditation and worship. Then look for other instances of the same idea. Keep a note pad as you go. You can build up quite a collection to share with a friend.
Your prayer and the impact of Corona-virus on Christian World Missions. As at home in Australia, missions personnel are impacted by additional precautions and care. These and added risks, expenses, time & effort for themselves and nationals. Remember these each you offer prayer.

He is Able. Our God 'is able.' The word 'able' tells of power; the strength, when called upon to achieve, to get things done (Strongs word, G1410). This months readings examine this word as the Bible uses it to tell about God’s ability. The word has been translated in different ways, so you may not always easily identify it, but the idea is there. Meditate on the concept. Use it to help your trust in Him to grow.

This months readings are chosen as they contain the words 'as' and 'so'. principally in that order. They run through the New Testament. The word 'as' is meant to herald an order or a significant condition, and the 'so' is principally chosen to indicate a result or an effect. Some are a warning to modify our behaviour, or encourage our participation in the blessing to follow. Put the verses into their context and meditate upon each thought.

The angel's words "bring you good news" (Christmas day reading) is an English translation of just one word. It is found in our Bibles in different expressions which also include, 'have the gospel preached to them', 'bring good news,' and the like. As this short list indicates the meaning is not the good news, but the delivery of the good news to them that are needy. As you read through, try to discover from the context, secrets that will help us to be more effective in this task.
